Oxford Nurse Receives Long-Term Care Career Advancement Scholarship

HAVERHILL, M.A. — Corinne Alper at The Oxford Rehabilitation & Health Care Center was chosen as one of 25 people in the state to receive the 2023 Massachusetts Senior Care Foundation Scholarship to support her career advancement in long-term care.

Alper is the Infection Control Nurse at the Haverhill facility, joining the team in May 2022.

She currently holds an L.P.N. from Northern Essex Community College and is finishing up her prerequisites at the school that will allow her to enroll in the R.N. program.

“My ultimate goal, eventually, is to have a management position. I would like to be Assistant Director, Director [of Nursing], something along those lines,” Alper said.

She said the news of the scholarship was “welcome” and “happy” to help financially support her future educational goals. The Massachusetts Senior Care Foundation has helped more than 1,600 people with scholarships over 38 years.

Oxford Administrator Mark Nugent was very excited when he was notified of the scholarship for his team member.

“Since joining our team, Corinne has shown such a passion for excellence and has worked each and every day to uphold the highest care standards for our residents. Not only does she create a loving environment for our residents and their family members, but Corinne is well-loved by her co-workers. I could not think of a more deserving person to receive this scholarship and recognition, and I look forward to her continued success with The Oxford family,” he said.

Alper said she has learned so much during her time at the Massachusetts center and is looking forward to advancing her career with the team.

“I like that every day is different,” she said. “Even if [the residents] are the same people, it’s different components of their personality come out each day and I’ve learned so much here. I had never worked in a skilled facility previously so I became I.V. certified, wound vac certified, now I’m infection control certified so I’ve gotten a lot of experience under my belt that I didn’t have previously.”
